How I Met Your Mother Season 6 Episode 18 A Change of Heart Summary:
Barney realizes he has heartfelt affection for Nora, and he thinks that something is wrong with him; and Robin dates a guy who acts like a dog.
Another hit and award-winning American situational comedy television series that’s loved by many people is How I Met Your Mother. Created by Craig Thomas and Carter Bays, it was first aired in CBS on September 19, 2005.
Since it was first launched, How I Met Your Mother has already won the American Latino Media Arts Award (ALMA) Award for Outstanding Writing for a Television Series and the Emmy Outstanding Art Direction and Cinematography for a Multi-Camera Series awards. One of its supporting actors, Neil Patrick Harris who played the character of Barney Stinson, has also earned a few nominations in People’s Choice Award as Favorite Scene Stealing Star, Satellite Award Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, Best Television Series, and Teen Choice Award Choice TV Actor for Comedy.
How I Met Your Mother is set in year 2030. It is actually centered on the recollection of Ted Mosby, played by Josh Radnor, of his story as told to his children. Other main characters are Ted’s best friends Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel) and Marshall’s wife Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan), Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders).
The flashback started in 2005 when Ted was, at age 27, in a quest to find true love, after having found out about Marshall and Lily’s engagement. Marshall was then a law student, Lily was a kindergarten teacher, Barney was a womanizer with an unnamed corporate job and Robin was a reporter, and apparently, Ted’s first love.
It is believed that another one of the reasons that piqued the interest of many people about How I Met Your Mother, aside from the award-winning production and cast, is the funny pick-up lines used in the movie. Another could be the real identity of the mother of Ted’s children. So far, the clues that were explicit from the movie are: Robin as constantly being referred to as Ted’s children’s “Aunt Robin”; that the children’s mother belonged to the architectural class where Ted taught; that the mother was a roommate of a graduate student named Cindy (Rachel Bilson) who Ted dated; and that Ted met his wife while he was the best man at a wedding.
As if the high ratings as proof of the success of How I Met Your Mother is not enough, it is still worth mentioning that the show is already on Episode 13 of its Sixth Season, which just recently had its air date on January 3, 2011. The episode has for its title “Bad News”.
Episode Summary: After Marshall sees a documentary about garbage, he feels the need to clean up the environment. Robin tries to force Barney to admit his feelings for Nora.
How I Met Your Mother is a comedy about Ted (Josh Radnor) and how he fell in love. It all started when Ted’s best friend, Marshall (Jason Segel), dropped the bombshell that he was going to propose to his longtime girlfriend, Lily (Alyson Hannigan), a kindergarten teacher. At that moment, Ted realized that he had better get a move on if he, too, hopes to find true love. Helping him in his quest is his friend Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), a confirmed bachelor with endless, sometimes outrageous opinions, a penchant for suits and a foolproof way to meet women. When Ted meets Robin (Cobie Smulders), he’s sure it’s love at first sight, but destiny has something else in store. The series is narrated through flashbacks from the future.
t was a Sunday in the Summer of 2006, the 13th of August if my memory serves me well (I didn’t google it… HONEST!), just came back from my first completed month of my new job. I went upstairs to my room, turned on the PC and then the TV next to it as I tend to have it on in the background for something to watch while the PC gets going. I was flicking through the channels… not much on, not much on at all, the same old rubbish that seems to be on television on a Sunday. But then I saw this programme, a new programme. I didn’t think much of it at the time, just thought I’d keep it on the channel as I like to give new programmes a chance. It turned out to be How I Met Your Mother, with the episode ‘The Wedding’. Safe to say I never looked back from then on.
The next couple of Sunday’s, they had me working an extra half-hour so I’d just be clocking off as HIMYM was starting. Of course now we’re in the 21st Century, I didn’t panic, I knew of such sites like youtube or veoh that would have fellow fans upload episodes. And I only watched the episodes BBC Two were showing at the time, I felt like I had the patience to wait episodes out, and I also wanted to stay on track and not be episodes ahead so I could talk to friends about the episode aired that night. But then BBC got stupid. They started messing around with the start time of each episode. These are the listing times of HIMYM by the BBC from …/07. So from a comfortable Dinner Time slot of 6:30 on BBC Two, it moved to closer to midnight, AND THEN beyond to be listed as late as 2:45… IN THE MORNING! In the UK, this happened to Third Watch, when episodes were too gory or violent and such, they’d put the one episode on at about 3am on a Sunday because of it, but where’s the violence in HIMYM? Slapbet? PA-lease!
So it seemed upsetting how a great programme seemed to be neglected by the BBC, but I stayed up and still watched all of those episodes late night like my life depended on it. Then came Season Two. Now this was a time before I found out about fanpop (God bless it), so I found it hard to find videos anywhere, so I had to wait it out. Soon enough I found this glorious site but some episodes of Season Two weren’t up at the time, so I could only watch it up to a specific point, the rest I felt like again I had to wait.
Then a cable/satellite channel came to my rescue, ‘Trouble’ showed HIMYM seasons one AND two in one hour blocks EACH DAY. So as much as I loved watching it online and the sporadical listing times on BBC Two (sense the sarcasm?), I found a home and so did this gem of a programme!
Now reading and hearing that How I Met Your Mother is question marked for the axe, I can’t understand why. Programmes like Friends, The Simpsons, Big Brother, CSI (sorry to say it, but recent episodes don’t have a leg to stand on compared to the first ones), 24, Charmed, and South Park go on for WAY too long for what kind of programmes they are. And then great Programmes like Firefly, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Undeclared, Freaks & Geeks, Popular, Dark Angel and the biggest programme that was axed… Arrested Development, THESE get taken before their time!
It’s a shame the good die young, could say the same about tv programmes. Whoever has the job to make or break programmes must be riddled with hate-mail each day as they are in fact… retarded.
HIMYM is EVERYTHING the 18-40 demographic wants. Play sword fights, a Fonz-like character, romance, Confederate Soldier ghosts, catchphrases, blue instruments, “sandwiches”, a Pontiac Fiero, SLAPBET, a “grinch”, a Paralegal, a slutty pumpkin (actually, it didn’t, actually it did… for a bit)! Now tell me, what idiot would EVER want to axe such a great show?
